How can I extend a shower cable? Anonymous user 2 December 2017 - 6.05 AM. I need to add a 10mm² cable to the existing cable that feeds my electric shower (8.5kW). The 60 Amp junction boxes are just too big. Is it OK to use 60Amp connector blocks on the 3 wires, wrap them in insulation tape and stick a tile on top to put it all out of sight?

AMG Electrical. 6mm twin and earth cable (which this almost certainly is) can be backed up by a maximum of a 32a MCB, even lower if other factors are involved. You'll need that 10mm cable and a 40a MCB unfortunately as your shower is going to draw over 32a. Whoever fitted the 40a MCB onto the 6mm cable originally was in the wrong.

Hi there, You can use 6mm cable for up 9.2 kW. Only condition is if you have a 9.2 kW shower on a 6 mm cable it should not be more then 6 meter away from the consumer unit. But 7.5 kW is ok. If you have a shower more then 9.2 kW, 10mm cable must be used. I normally always use 10 mm cable if the shower is 7.5 kW or more.

Best answer. D&C Electrical. 55 12 reviews. Walsall. personally I would use a 10mm armoured cable as people tend to change what they use on the circuit and pull more load. this would have to be fed from your fuseboard and run out to the shed where a small extension board would be fitted to provide a lighting and power supply. Anonymous user. the guide lines that we follow say 25 years is the life span of normal twin and earth pvc cable as used in a house, a lot depends on how it is wired, usage (overloading),alterations made, and type of cable. a house built in 1965 will probably need rewiring as the lighting circuit will probably not be earthed(no requirement for earthing then) and if TT ( over head supply cables ...

Kelly Electrics, Female Electricians Ltd. You would need to check the size of the existing cable which runs from the consumer unit to the hob isolator - minimum size required on a 32a breaker is 4.0mm twin & earth. The item you describe using standard diversification barely squeezes in to your 16A supply (16.3) if there is no plug socket on the ...

Epsom. You can put an 8kw electric shower on 6mm cable which draws the full current. Your hob and oven total 8.2kw and they use full power only very intermittently. You'll be fine putting both on the same cooker circuit. Get a professional in to wire it in if your unsure. Answered.

Yes the regulations do allow for cables to be just plastered over, although a good electrician would have installed Oval conduit or capping, so it sounds like he has done just the basics to keep the costs down and save a few pounds. Whilst its rare, the lime in plaster and cement can cause corrosion to the copper cores if there is any abrasion ...
